Mark 2:1-2
A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.

What was so attractive about Jesus that people followed Him? I just finished reading Mark 2 this morning. It got me thinking once again about those who followed Jesus. The religious crowd followed Him. His disciples followed Him. People who needed physical healing followed Him. This makes sense, right? But, sinners followed Him too! What!? Yeah, sinners followed Him everywhere. They didn’t just follow Him at a distance they actually hung out together. They ate together. They drank together. They laughed together. They listened to Jesus……….Why? What was it about Jesus that drew sinners to Him? Was it His good looks? Was it His personality? Did Jesus follow what was most popular in culture? Did He drink what they drank? What was it? Did He talk like they talked and tell the same jokes? Was it his robes? Was it His style? What was it that made Him so popular that people would cut a whole in a roof to get to Him? What was it!?

There are two things I know about Jesus. One, is that He is holy. He is perfect in every way. He is without sin. Two, is that He loves people. Unconditionaly, He loves them along with their sin and everything else. Now, obviously, He does not love their sin but He loves them inspite of their sin. Somehow the combination of these two characteristics in Jesus drew people to Himself.

In my new line of ministry I have often wondered how attractive I am going to be to this motorcycle crowd. What do I need to do in my life to get them to like me and listen to me. I am not going to wonder anymore. My goal is to follow Jesus’ example. I am going to strive to live a holy life and love people unconditionally. It is not easy but it is simplistic.

How about you? Are people following you? Are people doing extraordinary things to get to you? Are they listening to you? Are you living a holy life? Do you love people inspite of what they say and how they act?

I’m asking myself the same questions. Let’s be attractive for Jesus.
